"Working With Young Singers: Educational Philosophies of Expert Children's Choir Conductors, Volume 2"

Our northwest family of choral directors joins in congratulating Roberta Jackson, Deb Burgess, Rebecca Rottsolk, and Jerome Wright...four NW authors who have contributed chapters to this book published recently by GIA Publications.

Roberta's note to us says:

I am excited to share this great news! Working With Young Singers: Educational Philosophies of Expert Children’s Choir Conductors, Volumes 1 & 2, featuring a chapter written by us, as well as 21 other children’s choir conductors from the U. S. and Canada with their chapters, have just been released by GIA Publications. (We are in Volume 2).

Deb and I are thrilled and honored to be included in the distinguished list of authors, including children’s choir pioneers Jean Ashworth Bartle, Joan Gregoryk, and Doreen Rao, our mentor.

In the foreward to the book, Sandra Snow says, What we value as the artist-teachers is the experience of our singers…The reader is led to understand coalescing values of the children’s choir movement: quality repertoire, high expectations for artistic performance, deep respect for the inner lives of children, and a surprising consistent embrace of music of contemporary composers through systematic commissioning of music written for children.

“Melissa Mills has assembled a sterling cast of children’s choir conductors to speak about the pleasures and pitfalls of their work. Anyone who plans to work in this field will benefit from this well-written collection of interviews, and even the casual reader will enjoy meeting these dynamic musicians.”  Alice Parker, conductor, composer, founder of Melodious Accord (and choral icon).

We share this honor with each singer who has sung with us.
All the best,
Roberta
