Portland, OR - : Director of the Marylhurst Women's Chorale (posted here 3/12/17) Marylhurst University

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The choral program at Marylhurst University seeks a part-time choral director to join our growing community, effective Fall 2017. The position involves directing the Marylhurst Women's’ Chorale, an SSAA ensemble made up primarily of first and second year music majors. The Women's’ Chorale is one of three choral ensembles at Marylhurst University, in addition to the Marylhurst Chamber Choir, a thirty-member auditioned ensemble, and Marylhurst Choral Union, a sixty-member community-student choir.

The Chorale rehearses M, W, and F during the school year from 11:30am-12:45pm on the historic and beautiful Marylhurst campus, seven miles south of Portland. Three major concerts per year - in December, March and June - are normally given, and other concert opportunities are possible. The director is responsible for programming, rehearsing and performing all repertoire, as well as hiring guest instrumentalists as budget allows.

We are looking for an inspiring, motivating and highly knowledgeable choral musician to lead and grow our women's’ choir. Enthusiasm, creativity and the ability to work as part of a student-centered team is a crucial factor, as is interest in student recruitment. A bachelor's degree in music is required. Prior experience in high school or undergraduate choral directing is highly desirable, as is a masters degree.

For consideration, please send via email your most recent curriculum vitae, a cover letter indicating your interest in the position, and the names and contact information of three references. Materials should be received no later than April 30th, 2017. Finalists will be invited to conduct the ensemble in May 2017, with a final decision made by June 1st.

Please send materials or questions to Dr. Justin Smith, Director of Choral Activities, at jsmith@marylhurst.edu.
